Our story begins on a crisp October night; I was spending some time with a friend in Wilmington, North Carolina when my job called and asked if I could work a night shift. At the time I was not in school and working as a CNA at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, North Carolina; so I agreed… it meant overtime and extra money in my pocket. Until that point I had not worked a night shift and had only been working at the hospital about 6 weeks.
That night I was assigned to sit with a suicidal patient on 3rd bedtower which is one of our telemetry units. Ryan just happened to be my patients CNA that whole night. It was the first time I had ever seen him, he introduced himself to me and the patient and told me if I needed anything to just ask. When sitting with a patient there is paperwork that has to be initialed every 15 minutes and signed at the bottom, it verifies that someone was with the patient at all times. As the night wore on I was getting so tired and I ended up sitting outside of the room (my patient was asleep) to read H.G Wells War Of The Worlds in an attempt to keep myself awake. I asked Ryan if he could give me a break in order to get some coffee. Sometime during the wee hours of the morning Ryan asked me if I would like to join him for breakfast. I declined as I had prior plans.
A few hours later he requested to be my friend on Facebook, which of course I accepted. I didn’t know how he looked me up until after we started dating. He soon gave me his number and we began texting. He told his mother only 2 weeks after knowing me that I was the woman he was going to marry someday. Our texting relationship went on for about 2 months before he invited me to do something with him outside of work. After spending some time with him… I knew he was someone I had to have in my life.
I find it curious that Ryan just knew we were going to be together forever after only knowing me for 2 weeks. Now here we are, 3.5 years later and we are fast approaching our wedding day. I could not picture my life without him in it and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him.
